Each Summer thousands of New Zealanders flock to - or pass through - the beautiful town of Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands. Some just stop for gas or to have a quick browse of the shops stocking work by some of the local artisans, but if you're in town for a few days then I highly recommend taking the time to go on a very special tour known as the Kerikeri Eco Experience.
The price of the tour starts at $52.00 per adult, and make sure you take your wallet as you'll visit some interesting spots selling some of the finest local arts and produce. You'll also get to meet passionate locals who are taking steps to protect this special place, and taste some of the yummiest fare you have in a while.
The tour includes a spot of wine tasting or a cup of organic coffee at Ake Ake vineyard, seeing plants from all over the world at the beautiful tropical paradise known as Wharepuke Subtropical Eco Gardens, taking time for a stellar photo op at Rainbow Falls, and then visiting Living Nature, to see where New Zealand's oldest organic beauty brand create their natural cosmetics and skin care products.
You can also book in at Living Nature for a facial or massage at their on site spa, which is an experience in itself. All entry fees are include in the price of the tour, which departs from Paihia. Bookings are essential.
