The route from Auckland to Tauranga passes the beautiful Karangahake Gorge on State Highway 2 and is a great drive.
It’s worth stopping to explore the old tunnels, bridges, streams and waterfalls. A walkway also follows the historic railway line which is pretty ace. There are plenty of shady trees on this drive to escape from summer heat too.
