Just 45 minutes drive from the thriving hub of South Island skiing, Queenstown, lies one of New Zealand’s most well-known ski-fields. Aptly known as The Remarkables this 700 hectare park is the perfect playground for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.
Three sun-drenched bowls are easily reached by quad chairs and surface conveyer lifts and the first Jake Burton designed terrain park is a must for boarders.
There are few more spectacular places to indulge your winter sport fanaticism than The Remarkables and few places that are so well set up for the entire family. Not only is Queenstown the perfect base for your adventures with countless great hotels, motels and backpackers but the park’s facilities are also second to none.
While the experienced skiers and boarders in the family might be testing themselves on the backcountry Homeward Run trail or great chutes and big mountain terrain, the newbies and littlies can hone their skills on the fantastic novice slopes directly in front of the sundeck and café.
Equipment is available for hire and buy on site and there is an award-winning ski and board school for those who want to learn from the pros. There are arguably few better ski fields in the South Island and The Remarkables is set to open in June 2010 so you don’t have long to wait to get into the action.
