Cape Reinga and Te Paki are on the northern tip of the North Island, an area steeped in Maori tradition and the heritage of the past.
Cape Reinga shows the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean colliding in an endless view of the seascape. It’s a long but scenic drive to the top. You can then park and walk down the path to the famous lighthouse, great for photos.
Be sure to look out for the road sign pointing to the directions of different countries. Cape Reinga is also home to Spirits Bay where in Maori culture it is said that spirits of the deceased depart for their ancestral homeland at this sacred spot.
